The StuG III Ausf. G (December 1943 production) with MIAG-applied Zimmerit was the standard, mature StuG G form: a low-silhouette assault gun mounting the 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 for direct fire support and anti-tank work, built on the Panzer III hull with a welded casemate and production refinements introduced through 1943. 
 
What sets the MIAG examples apart is the factory-applied MIAG (checkered/diamond) Zimmerit finish — a distinctive square/check pattern applied to the hull and casemate to keep magnetic anti-tank mines from adhering. MIAG’s pattern is visually different from the waffle/pyramid style commonly seen on Alkett-built StuGs, and modelers and restorers routinely use the pattern to identify MIAG production or rebuilds. Zimmerit was applied at factories from late-1943 and discontinued in 1944, after which vehicles left the line uncoated.
