The Hitler Youth Panzerschreck team in the defence of Berlin was a small, desperate anti-tank crew made up largely of teenage members pressed into service during April–May 1945 to help stop the Soviet advance. Typically organised into 3–4 man teams and attached to Volkssturm or ad-hoc infantry units, they were armed with captured or issued Panzerschreck rocket launchers (and often also Panzerfausts) and taught only rudimentary ambush tactics—how to fire from windows, cellars, basements and rubble-strewn alleyways at advancing tanks. Lacking proper training, protective gear, or coordinated support, these teams relied on concealment, shock tactics, and close-range shots aimed at weak points in armour; when successful they could knock out vehicles, but they suffered extremely high casualties from return fire, artillery, and tank escorts. Their employment in Berlin’s final weeks underscores the regime’s collapse and the tragic use of adolescents in lethal frontline roles.
