The Sherman Duplex Drive (DD), nicknamed "Donald Duck", was an amphibious version of the M4 Sherman tank used during D-Day and other amphibious operations in World War II. It featured a canvas flotation screen and propellers, allowing it to "swim" from landing craft to shore under its own power. While innovative, many DD tanks sank in rough seas at Normandy, but those that made it ashore provided crucial armored support during the initial assaults.
