The T18E2 Boarhound was a heavy American armoured car developed in 1942 for British use during World War II. Built by Yellow Coach (General Motors), it was designed to provide greater protection and firepower than lighter reconnaissance vehicles like the Humber or Daimler. Weighing over 26 tons, the Boarhound featured up to 50mm of armour and was armed with a 57mm (6-pounder) main gun and .30 calibre machine guns for defence. Powered by two GMC 6-cylinder engines, it could reach speeds of around 80 km/h (50 mph) on roads—impressive for its size—but its weight made it unsuitable for off-road or desert operations.

Although it offered excellent firepower and protection, the Boarhound was complex, expensive, and difficult to maintain, leading the British Army to cancel large-scale production after only about 30 units were built. A few saw limited service in North Africa for convoy escort and reconnaissance duties, but its heavy weight and mechanical issues made it impractical for widespread use. The T18E2 Boarhound remains a fascinating example of early Allied experimentation with heavily armoured wheeled vehicles, foreshadowing postwar trends in armoured car design.
