The British Air Landing Para Section (1944) formed the core infantry element of the Air Landing Brigades attached to the 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions. Unlike parachute troops, these soldiers arrived by Horsa or Hamilcar gliders, allowing them to bring heavier weapons, additional ammunition, and support equipment directly into battle. A typical section consisted of around 10 men, armed with Lee-Enfield rifles, a Bren light machine gun, Sten submachine guns, grenades, and PIAT anti-tank weapons where required. Their greater carrying capacity made them particularly well suited to holding captured objectives against counter-attacks.

Air Landing sections fought with distinction during the Normandy landings, Operation Market Garden, and the Rhine Crossing, where they secured bridges, defended landing zones, and supported parachute battalions in prolonged combat. Trained to fight as elite infantry, they combined the mobility of airborne forces with heavier firepower than parachute units, earning a reputation for determination, discipline, and resilience while operating behind enemy lines.
