The Panzer IV Ausf. D, introduced in 1939, was an early variant of Germany's versatile medium tank, designed for infantry support and anti-tank roles. Armed with a short-barreled 7.5cm KwK 37 L/24 gun, it was effective against fortifications and infantry but less so against heavily armored tanks. With up to 30mm of armor, it offered moderate protection. The Ausf. D saw extensive action during the invasion of France, the Balkans, and the early stages of Operation Barbarossa, playing a key role in Germany’s early Blitzkrieg successes.
