The German Opel Blitz 3-ton was the Wehrmacht’s most important and widely used transport truck during World War II, forming the logistical backbone of German mobile operations. Introduced in 1937, the Blitz featured a reliable 3-ton payload, a durable 3.6-litre inline-six petrol engine, and excellent on-road performance, making it ideal for rapid troop movement, supply hauling, and towing light equipment. The flatbed design allowed for quick loading and unloading of cargo, ammunition, fuel drums, and field gear, while also serving as a transport platform for infantry squads during fast-paced Blitzkrieg operations.

With more than 80,000 built, the Opel Blitz saw service on every front—from the early victories in Poland and France to the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front and the North African desert. Its simplicity, reliability, and easily sourced spare parts made it a favourite among German drivers and mechanics, though its two-wheel-drive configuration limited off-road performance compared to the rarer 4x4 variants. Despite this, the Opel Blitz remained indispensable throughout the war, symbolising the mobility and logistical support that kept German forces operational in every major campaign.
