British - 8th Army (1942) - Battle Box

The British Eighth Army became one of the most famous Allied formations of the Second World War, particularly for its campaigns across North Africa from 1941 to 1943. Bringing together troops from Britain and across the Commonwealth and Allied nations, including Australians, New Zealanders, South Africans, Indians and Free French forces, the Eighth Army fought a long and demanding campaign against German and Italian forces in the Western Desert. Under commanders including General Bernard Montgomery, it achieved its most celebrated victory at the Second Battle of El Alamein in 1942, before advancing westwards through Libya and into Tunisia. Supported by infantry, armour, artillery and a vast network of transport and supply vehicles, the Eighth Army became synonymous with the hard-fought desert war and later continued the campaign into Sicily and Italy.
