The M2A3 was a variant of the M2 Light Tank, developed by the United States in the late 1930s as part of its pre-World War II armored force. It featured improved suspension, thicker armor, and twin .30 caliber machine guns in a small turret, with a .50 caliber machine gun mounted in a larger, rotating turret. The M2A3 had a crew of 4 and was powered by a Continental gasoline engine, giving it good mobility for its time.
While it saw limited use in training and early war roles, the M2A3 was quickly rendered obsolete by the start of U.S. involvement in WWII. Its light armor and lack of a proper main gun made it unsuitable for front-line combat, but it played a key role in training American armored crews and in the development of later tanks like the M3 Stuart.
