The Japanese Type 2 Su-Ki was an amphibious truck developed by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II to support logistics and troop movements across island and coastal regions in the Pacific. Introduced in 1943, it was based on the standard Toyota 4x4 truck chassis but modified with a boat-shaped steel hull and a rear-mounted propeller, allowing it to operate both on land and in water. It was unarmored and typically unarmed, serving primarily as a transport vehicle for supplies, fuel, equipment, and occasionally troops during amphibious operations or in areas with poor infrastructure. The Su-Ki had a cargo capacity of around 2 tons and was powered by a gasoline engine, offering reasonable performance in both environments. It was deployed in limited numbers due to Japan’s industrial constraints and was used mainly in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia, where rough terrain and scattered islands made conventional logistics difficult. Though not produced in large quantities, the Type 2 Su-Ki was an important logistical tool in Japan’s efforts to maintain supply lines across its vast island empire.
