The British Morris C8 Quad was a widely used artillery tractor during World War II, designed to tow field guns and transport gun crews and ammunition. Introduced in 1939, the C8 Quad had a distinctive rounded, beetle-like body and was built on a robust 4x4 chassis, giving it good cross-country mobility. Powered by a Morris EH 4-cylinder petrol engine, it could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph) while towing artillery such as the 25-pounder field gun, the 17-pounder anti-tank gun, and the QF 4.5-inch howitzer. The fully enclosed body protected the crew from the elements and provided space for six to eight men, along with stowage for equipment and ammunition. The C8 Quad served with British and Commonwealth forces in all major theatres, including North Africa, Italy, and North-West Europe, where its reliability and ruggedness were highly valued. Variants included models with open tops or modified bodies for specific roles. Produced in large numbers, the Morris C8 Quad became one of the most recognisable and dependable artillery tractors of the war.
