The British Armoured Carrier Wheeled Indian Pattern Mk.II (ACV-IP Mk.II) was a versatile and widely used light armored personnel carrier developed in India during World War II to meet the demands of the British and Commonwealth forces, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. Based on commercial 4x2 and 4x4 truck chassis, usually Ford or Chevrolet, the Indian Pattern carrier was fitted with riveted or welded armor plates providing basic protection against small arms fire and shrapnel. The Mk.II variant improved upon earlier designs with better armor layout, increased reliability, and enhanced mobility across rough terrain. Typically armed with a .303 Bren light machine gun or a Vickers machine gun mounted on a pintle, it was primarily used for reconnaissance, troop transport, convoy escort, and patrol duties. Its lightweight construction and simple design allowed it to be easily produced and repaired in local workshops, making it highly valuable in remote and resource-limited theaters. The ACV-IP Mk.II became a workhorse for British and Indian units, praised for its adaptability and durability, and it remained in widespread use throughout the war and in the post-war years by Commonwealth armies.
