The M36 Gun Motor Carriage, commonly known as the "Jackson", was a U.S. tank destroyer developed late in World War II, mounting a powerful 90mm M3 gun on an M10 Wolverine chassis. Designed to combat heavy German tanks like the Tiger and Panther, the M36 combined strong anti-tank firepower with good mobility, though it retained the typical open-topped turret of American tank destroyers for weight savings and crew visibility.
The M36 entered service in late 1944, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge and the final push into Germany, where it proved capable of defeating most German armor at range. Postwar, it continued to serve in the Korean War and was exported widely, remaining in use in some countries into the late 20th century.
