The Soviet IS-2 (Iosif Stalin) heavy tank was one of the most powerful tanks of World War II, developed to counter German heavy armor like the Tiger I and Panther. Introduced in 1944, the IS-2 featured thick frontal armor up to 120mm and was armed with a devastating 122mm D-25T gun, capable of destroying enemy tanks and fortifications with a single well-placed shot. Despite a relatively slow rate of fire due to its large, two-part ammunition, the gun delivered immense firepower, including high-explosive rounds effective in urban and infantry support roles. The IS-2 was powered by a reliable V-2 diesel engine, giving it decent mobility for a heavy tank and allowing it to keep pace with advancing Soviet forces. It saw major action in the Vistula–Oder Offensive, Battle of Berlin, and other key engagements on the Eastern Front, often leading breakthrough assaults. The IS-2 struck a balance between firepower, protection, and mobility, making it one of the most feared and respected tanks of the war.
