The Sherman M4A3E2 "Jumbo" Cobra King is a notable variant of the M4 Sherman tank, specifically designed for increased protection and assault roles during World War II. Introduced in 1944, the Jumbo featured significantly thicker armor, with up to 100mm on the front hull and turret, making it one of the most heavily armored Shermans. The Cobra King, in particular, gained historical fame for being the first tank to break through German lines to relieve the besieged town of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Equipped with a 75mm gun, it sacrificed speed and mobility for protection, allowing it to withstand heavy enemy fire while supporting infantry and leading assaults. The Cobra King and other Jumbos demonstrated the versatility and adaptability of the Sherman tank design, playing a critical role in key battles in the European Theater.
