The British CS9 Indian Pattern Light Armoured Car (CS9 ILAC) was a light armoured reconnaissance vehicle developed in the late 1930s by the Morris Motor Company for use by British and Commonwealth forces, particularly in overseas territories such as India. Based on a commercial Morris 6x4 truck chassis, it was fitted with a riveted armoured body providing protection against small arms fire and shrapnel. The CS9 ILAC was typically armed with a .303 Bren light machine gun or a .55 inch Boys anti-tank rifle mounted in an open-topped turret, making it suitable for scouting, convoy escort, and internal security duties rather than direct combat with enemy armour. Its 6x4 wheel configuration provided good road speed and reliability, though its off-road performance was limited compared to later designs. The CS9 ILAC saw service in the early years of World War II, particularly in the Middle East and India, where it was valued for its simplicity, ease of maintenance, and adaptability in regions with poor infrastructure. While soon replaced by more modern armoured cars, it played an important role in the pre-war and early-war reconnaissance forces of the British Empire.
