The British Churchill Mk. IV AVRE with Towed Mine Roller was a specialised assault engineering vehicle developed to breach minefields and fortified defences during World War II. Based on the heavily armoured Churchill Mk. IV, the AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) was equipped with the formidable 290mm Petard spigot mortar, capable of demolishing bunkers, walls, and strongpoints at close range. In addition to its demolition role, this variant operated with a towed mine roller system, designed to detonate or expose anti-tank mines ahead of advancing troops.

The mine roller, attached via a towing arm, applied pressure to the ground to trigger buried mines before the Churchill passed over them, helping to create safer lanes through heavily mined areas. Used extensively by the 79th Armoured Division during the Normandy campaign and subsequent operations in Northwest Europe, the Churchill AVRE with mine roller was a crucial breaching asset. Combining heavy armour, obstacle-clearing firepower, and minefield-reduction capability, it exemplified British innovation in specialised armoured engineering during the later stages of the war.
