The Sherman M4A3(75)W with wading gear was a modified version of the M4A3 Sherman equipped with a 75mm gun and wet ammunition stowage ("W") to reduce the risk of internal fires. The wading gear consisted of tall, waterproof trunk extensions fitted to the engine intake and exhaust, allowing the tank to ford deep water, such as during amphibious landings.
 
These Shermans were specially prepared for operations like D-Day and amphibious assaults in the Pacific, enabling them to land directly on beaches and support infantry from the outset. Once ashore, the wading gear was typically removed. The M4A3(75)W’s combination of firepower, reliability, and adaptability made it a versatile and essential asset in these high-risk landing operations.
