The Sherman M4A3 (105mm) was a U.S. assault support variant of the M4 Sherman tank, equipped with a 105mm M4 howitzer instead of the standard tank gun. Designed to provide high-explosive firepower against infantry, bunkers, and fortifications, it played a key role in infantry support, especially in urban and close-quarters combat. It featured a larger turret, coaxial machine gun, and often came with a muzzle brake for recoil management.
 
Built on the M4A3 chassis with a Ford GAA V8 engine, it retained the reliability and mobility of other Sherman models. The M4A3 (105mm) was issued primarily to tank battalion HQs and support units, and served in both the European and Pacific theaters. Its heavy HE rounds complemented the 76mm gun Shermans, making it a valuable part of U.S. armored formations.
