The USA M3A1 Stuart (Late War Variant) was the final iteration of the M3A1 light tank in World War II, serving primarily in reconnaissance and support roles by the closing stages of the conflict. Still armed with the 37mm M6 gun and coaxial .30 cal machine gun, it retained armour up to 44mm and the same Continental W-670 radial engine, capable of speeds up to 58 km/h (36 mph). By late war, the M3A1 was largely outclassed in direct combat with enemy armour, but it remained useful for scouting, convoy protection, and supporting infantry in secondary theatres. Many were also supplied to Allied nations through Lend-Lease, where they continued to see effective use despite being technologically outdated on the main battlefronts.
