European Partizans - Volkssturm Female Fighters
The Volkssturm Female Fighters represent German women who took up arms during the desperate final months of the Second World War as fighting reached Germany itself. The Volkssturm, created in late 1944, was primarily a male militia, and women were not routinely enrolled as combat troops, but some nevertheless became involved in local defence, particularly during the chaotic battles of 1945. Women more commonly served as auxiliaries, nurses and communications personnel, although individual accounts describe some taking up rifles, Panzerfausts and other available weapons as Soviet and Allied forces advanced. These figures are ideal for representing the improvised and increasingly desperate nature of Germany’s final defence, particularly in Berlin and other late-war urban battles.
