The Australian 25-pounder Field Gun (1941) was the principal artillery weapon of the Australian Army during World War II, providing reliable and accurate fire support in both the North African Desert and the Pacific theatre. Based on the British Ordnance QF 25-pounder, it fired an 87.6mm (25-pound) shell and was capable of delivering high-explosive, smoke, and armour-piercing ammunition. Renowned for its excellent combination of range, accuracy, and rate of fire, the gun could engage enemy infantry, artillery positions, bunkers, and light armoured vehicles. Operated by a six-man crew, it could fire up to 6–8 rounds per minute during sustained engagements.

Introduced into Australian service before the North African campaign, the 25-pounder became a cornerstone of Australian artillery from 1941 onward, seeing action at Tobruk, El Alamein, Kokoda, New Guinea, and Borneo. Its versatility allowed it to perform both indirect artillery bombardments and direct-fire support when required, making it one of the most respected field guns of the war. Reliable in harsh desert conditions and later adapted to the challenges of jungle warfare, the Australian 25-pounder earned a reputation for delivering fast, accurate, and devastating fire wherever Australian forces fought.
