In the late stages of World War II, the U.S. Army’s light artillery played a crucial role in the Pacific Theater, providing highly mobile fire support in battles across the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and other key islands. Light artillery units, primarily equipped with the 75mm M1A1 pack howitzer and the 105mm M2A1 howitzer, were essential for close infantry support, bunker-busting, and rapid deployment in the dense jungles and mountainous terrain of the Pacific islands. Unlike heavier artillery, these guns could be airlifted, manhandled, or broken down for transport by mules, trucks, or landing craft, making them ideal for the rugged, roadless battlefields of the Pacific. Artillery crews operated under harsh conditions, often setting up in makeshift positions while facing Japanese counterattacks, infiltration tactics, and extreme weather. Light artillery was particularly valuable in jungle warfare, where quick repositioning and direct fire capabilities were often required to deal with hidden enemy bunkers, caves, and ambushes. In major battles like Okinawa, these weapons played a key role in supporting infantry advances and countering Japanese strongpoints. As the war neared its end, these units were preparing for Operation Downfall, the planned invasion of Japan, where their ability to provide fast, adaptable fire support would have been critical. However, Japan’s surrender in August 1945 meant they were never used in a full-scale invasion of the Japanese mainland.

This is a multi part model complete. We strongly recomend superglue to assemble.
