The German King Tiger tank, also known as the Tiger II or Königstiger, was one of the most powerful tanks of World War II, combining formidable firepower, armor, and size. Armed with an 88mm KwK 43 L/71 gun, the King Tiger could penetrate virtually any Allied tank's armor at long distances, making it a feared adversary on the battlefield. Its armor was exceptionally thick, with frontal armor up to 185mm, and sloped for added effectiveness, providing substantial protection against most anti-tank weapons. Weighing nearly 70 tons, the King Tiger was slower and less maneuverable than other tanks, with a top speed of around 25 mph (40 km/h) on roads, and it suffered from frequent mechanical breakdowns due to its complex design. First introduced in 1944, it saw action primarily on the Eastern and Western Fronts, where its imposing presence and devastating gun made it one of the most iconic and feared tanks of the war, despite its logistical and mechanical challenges.
