The IS-1 was a Soviet heavy tank developed in 1943 as a successor to the KV series. It featured thicker armor and was armed with an 85mm D-5T gun, making it more effective against German tanks like the Panther and Tiger I. Although produced in limited numbers, it led to the development of the IS-2, which became a key Soviet tank in World War II.
