The British Morris Mk II Reconnaissance Car was a light armoured car developed early in World War II for scouting, liaison, and security duties. Introduced in 1940 as an improvement over the Mk I, the Mk II was built on a Morris Commercial 4x2 chassis and fitted with an armoured hull offering protection up to 14mm against small arms fire and shrapnel. It was typically armed with a .303 Bren light machine gun or a .55 inch Boys anti-tank rifle, mounted in an open-topped, manually operated turret. With a crew of three, the vehicle was valued for its simplicity, ease of maintenance, and good road speed, though its lack of four-wheel drive limited its off-road performance. The Morris Mk II saw service primarily with British and Commonwealth forces in North Africa, the Middle East, and in training units within the UK. While it was soon replaced in front-line reconnaissance roles by more capable armoured cars like the Humber and Daimler, the Morris Mk II played a useful role in the early-war years and in secondary duties throughout the conflict.
