The British Centaur ARV Dozer was a specialised armoured recovery and engineering vehicle developed from the Centaur cruiser tank chassis during the later stages of World War II. With its turret removed, the vehicle was converted for recovery and battlefield engineering duties, often fitted with a bulldozer blade to clear obstacles, rubble, and defensive works. Powered by the same Liberty engine as the standard Centaur, it retained good mobility and cross-country performance, allowing it to operate close to the front lines alongside armoured units.
Used primarily in Northwest Europe from 1944 onward, the Centaur ARV Dozer supported British armoured formations by recovering damaged vehicles, assisting in breaching operations, and preparing defensive positions. Though not produced in large numbers, it exemplified the British emphasis on adapting existing tank chassis for specialised battlefield roles—much like the various vehicles of the 79th Armoured Division. The Centaur ARV Dozer played a valuable, if often overlooked, role in maintaining momentum during Allied advances in the final year of the war.
