The Soviet ISU-152 was a powerful self-propelled heavy assault gun and tank destroyer developed during World War II, built on the IS (Iosif Stalin) heavy tank chassis. Armed with the massive 152mm ML-20S gun-howitzer, the ISU-152 could deliver devastating high-explosive shells capable of destroying bunkers, fortifications, and even heavy German tanks like the Tiger and Panther through sheer kinetic force. Though it lacked the precision of dedicated anti-tank guns, its firepower earned it the nickname "Zveroboy" (Beast Slayer) among Soviet troops. Introduced in 1944, the ISU-152 featured thick armor—up to 90mm on the front—and was used for both direct fire support and anti-tank roles, particularly in urban battles such as Königsberg and Berlin. Its large gun had a slow rate of fire and limited ammunition capacity, but its shock effect and versatility made it a key component of Soviet breakthrough operations. The ISU-152 remained in service well after the war and played a significant role in the evolution of Soviet armored doctrine.
