The Ladungsleger Tiger, or "Demolition Charge Layer Tiger," was a specialised and experimental variant of the German Tiger I heavy tank designed during World War II to deploy massive demolition charges against fortified enemy positions. This unique vehicle replaced the Tiger's main armament with equipment for carrying and deploying a large explosive charge, typically weighing around 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds). The idea was for the Ladungsleger to approach fortified structures, deploy the charge remotely using a mechanical arm, and then retreat to a safe distance before detonation.
The slow deployment process, vulnerability during the operation, and the availability of more efficient methods for breaching fortifications, such as heavy artillery and airstrikes, limited its viability. Only a prototype or very small numbers were produced, and the Ladungsleger Tiger did not see significant deployment in the field, remaining a little-known curiosity among Germany's numerous experimental wartime vehicles.
