The German Jagdpanzer IV/70 (V) was a late-war tank destroyer introduced in 1944, built by Vomag as an improved, up-gunned development of the earlier Jagdpanzer IV. Mounted on the dependable Panzer IV chassis, it carried the long and powerful 7.5cm Pak 42 L/70 gun—the same weapon used on the Panther—giving it exceptional armour penetration and accuracy at long range. Armour protection was substantial, with a sharply sloped 80mm glacis plate that made it difficult to penetrate from the front. However, the extra weight of the long gun and thicker armour caused the vehicle’s nose to sag, reducing mobility and placing strain on the suspension and final drive components.
 
Despite these drawbacks, the Jagdpanzer IV/70 (V) proved highly effective in defensive warfare, excelling in ambush roles where its low silhouette and excellent gun could dominate enemy armour. It served extensively on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, including during the Ardennes Offensive, where its firepower made it one of Germany’s most feared tank destroyers. Although limited by Germany’s declining industrial capacity and fuel shortages, the Jagdpanzer IV/70 (V) remains one of the most formidable and iconic German tank destroyers of the late war period.
