The British Humber Armoured Car Mk II was an improved version of the early-war Humber Mk I, designed to provide better protection and reliability for reconnaissance and security roles. Introduced in 1941, the Mk II featured thicker armour—up to 15mm—and retained the fully enclosed turret mounting a .55 inch Boys anti-tank rifle and a .303 Bren light machine gun, giving it light anti-vehicle and anti-infantry capability. Built on a strengthened Karrier KT4 artillery tractor chassis, the Mk II offered good road speed and dependable cross-country performance, making it well-suited for fast-moving reconnaissance missions. It saw extensive service with British and Commonwealth forces in North Africa, the Middle East, and later in North-West Europe, where its mobility and ease of maintenance were highly valued. While soon outclassed by more heavily armed armoured cars, the Humber Mk II remained in service in secondary roles throughout the war and contributed significantly to early Allied reconnaissance operations.
