German - DAK - Kradschutzen HQ

The DAK Kradschützen HQ represented the command element of the Afrika Korps’ fast-moving motorcycle infantry formations during the North African Campaign. Officers, NCOs, messengers and communications personnel coordinated the movements of Kradschützen units, using motorcycles and sidecar combinations to keep pace with German armoured and motorised columns across the desert. Equipped with maps, binoculars and communications equipment alongside their personal weapons, these command teams helped direct reconnaissance, organise rapid advances and relay orders between units. Their mobility made them particularly well suited to the fluid desert warfare that characterised the Afrika Korps campaigns of 1941–42.
