The StuG III Ausf. G (Mid-Production Model) with pivot Schürzen was a widely fielded, mid-war iteration of Germany’s low-silhouette assault gun, combining the potent 7.5cm StuK 40 L/48 with the roomy lengthened Ausf. G superstructure. Armour remained robust for the type—up to 80mm frontally—and it was powered by the dependable Maybach HL 120 engine with a four-man crew. The mid-production examples commonly carried the thin pivoting Schürzen side-skirts that swung outward for easier access to the running gear, giving added protection against anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge weapons while simplifying maintenance in the field. These vehicles served across the Eastern and Western Fronts and in the Mediterranean, where their low profile, reliable gun, and pragmatic balance of protection and serviceability made them effective ambush and infantry-support weapons during 1943–44.
